Description

The conference Joint Meeting of PSRS Members and SOLARIS Centre Users (JMSU) is a platform for exchange of knowledge and experience in scientific research using synchrotron radiation and cryogenic electron microscopy. The meeting has a legacy of the Symposium of Polish Synchrotron Users (KSUPS) organized from 1991 to 2017. Since 2020 it evolved to an international event gathering the users of synchrotrons and cryo-electron microscopy facilities worldwide, including users of SOLARIS Centre and members of the Polish Synchrotron Radiation Society. 

Scientists and engineers meet face-to-face at the Jagiellonian University Campus to share results of their recent experiments and to visit research facilities of the SOLARIS Centre. The topics of the conference cover all areas of natural and applied science, from physics to biology, chemistry, geology, and engineering. The meeting is an opportunity to integrate the community of scientists conducting research at interdisciplinary research facilities, to exchange ideas for new scientific projects involving the use of synchrotron beamlines and cryo-microscopes, and to discuss development of infrastructure to ensure the highest level of scientific research conducted at SOLARIS Centre.

The didactic aspect of the conference is particularly important for students and young scientists, who want to become users of SOLARIS infrastructure. Equally important is the opportunity to exchange experiences between more advanced users of synchrotron lightsources and cryo-electron microscopy facilities as well as to share these experiences with new or prospective users.

The program includes invited lectures, oral contributions and posters presenting results of recent experiments, technological achievements, and development trends in using synchrotron radiation and cryogenic electron microscopy. 

Conference sessions during day one and two will cover the following topics :

  • Update from SOLARIS Centre and Polish Synchrotron Radiation Society, information on projects supporting access of Polish scientists to the ESRF and European XFEL, on European Synchrotron User Organization and support of transnational user access such as Nephews, RIANA, etc.
  • Cryogenic electron microscopy and structural biology research, etc.
  • Soft matter and biomedical research, composites, polymers, etc.
  • Materials chemistry and engineering, catalysis, operando, energy storage, etc.
  • Nanotechnology and quantum materials, magnetism, surface science, etc.
  • Geoscience, space science, environment, food research, applied research, etc.

Third day of the conference will be focused on CERIC-ERIC on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Polish membership to CERIC. Two sessions will cover the review of CERIC facilities and activities, and results of user experiments supported by CERIC.
