DESCRIPTION:SOLARIS National Synchrotron Radiation Centre is pleased to an
nounce the Crosscarpatian Synchrotron School (CSS2026)\, taking place from
  Wednesday\, 16th to Saturday\, 19th of September 2026 in Kraków\, Poland
.The CSS2026 is aimed at students\, postdoctoral researchers\, and senior
scientists with little or no experience in performing experiments at synch
rotron radiation facilities. This year’s edition will have a thematic fo
cus on X-ray spectroscopy and microscopy\, offering participants both theo
retical knowledge and practical experience. The program will consist of a c
oncise introduction to synchrotron radiation\, an overview of synchrotron
experimental methods with particular emphasis on applications of X-ray spe
ctroscopy and microscopy probes in various research fields\, as well as ha
nds-on training at SOLARIS infrastructure. In this edition\, we additiona
lly offer an advanced proposal‑writing module\, during which participant
s will develop own beamtime application ready for submission.Lectures and
practical training will cover the following topics:Synchrotron radiation a
nd its interaction with matterPhotoemission and absorption spectroscopyX-r
ay microscopy and spectromicroscopyWorkshop on preparing and writing propo
salsPractical sessions:Participants will have the opportunity to take part
in one-day hands-on training on selected beamline and 2-hour study visits
on three other beamlines Hands-on session will include experiment design\
 , sample preparation\, measurements\, and data processing.Beamlines availa
ble for hands-on training and study visits include:DEMETER\, PIRX\, URANOS
 \, PHELIX\, POLYX\, and ASTRA.Participation details:To ensure effective kn
owledge transfer and hands-on experience\, the number of participants is l
imited to 18\, with a maximum of 3 people per hands-on training at each be
amline. Selection will be based on recommendations from the Scientific Adv
isory and Organizing Committees.Participation in CSS2026 is free of charge
. Accommodation and catering will be provided by organizers. Eligible tra
vel expenses will be reimbursed after the event. As a deliverable\, we ex
pect each participant to prepare and submit a beamtime proposal to SOLAR
IS for the next call\, aiming for positive recommendations and future beam
 time allocation.  \n\nhttps://indico.solaris.edu.pl/event/29/
